Why We Have ADT Security at Our Remote Rural Home
You have to go down a rural road about four miles before the turnoff to our property is available. It is a narrow gravel road that you cannot drive up without somebody hearing you approaching from the house. The house sits back off of the road about a half mile in. We have four-wheel drive vehicles to get in and out in the winter. It is remote yet beautiful. Its remoteness is exactly why we have an ADT security system. No, it is not so much to notify the police as it is to notify us and our neighbor who is a relative. We are served out here by the State Police, and it takes them at least 30 minutes to get here if they were in a hurry. It is the fault of our location and not their dedication. The fire department would take over 10 minutes to get here if the firemen were in the truck with it running at the firehouse when the call came in.
We like the ability to get a live video surveillance feed from any Internet enabled device we have. If we get a call that the alarm is going off, we can look at the individual cameras to see what is going on back at the house. Our neighbors have had some things stolen from outbuildings, and that is why we decided to get the alarm system. We follow security and safety protocols that make sense for a family who lives in a rural location when we are at home. However, there is no one to come running immediately if something happens while we are away. Even our nearby relative works during the day.
I think it is important for rural homes to have an ADT security system installed regardless of how fast the police or fire department can get there if an alarm is sounding. Early warning is early warning. The quicker they know something is happening, the quicker they can get there. The low cost monitoring and high quality electronics sold us on the system. The monitoring is a help at least in notifying us by cell phone if and alarm condition is detected.
